BearDrop: scan a QR code to send files between your phone and PC

Move files between your phone and your PC by scanning a QR code. Your phone just uses its browser — no app to install, no account, and nothing ever leaves your local network. Free, under 100 KB.

How it works

Phone → PC

Scan the QR code shown on your computer, pick files in your phone's browser, and they land in a folder on your PC. Photos and videos keep full quality — nothing is compressed.

PC → Phone

On the computer, click “Add files” (or drag them in). They appear on your phone, ready to tap and download. No size limit beyond your disk.

Why use it

How to use it

  1. Connect your PC and phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open BearDrop on the PC. It opens a page in your browser showing a QR code.
  3. The first time, Windows may ask about the firewall — tick “Private networks” and click Allow.
  4. On your phone, scan the QR code with the camera and open the link.
  5. To send from the phone: tap “choose files”. To send from the PC: click “Add files”, then tap to download on the phone.

Is it safe?

BearDrop works only on your local network and shows a clear window the whole time — it never runs hidden and never executes commands. Each session uses a new random code in the QR link, so devices that did not scan it cannot connect. Use it on a Wi-Fi you trust, such as at home.

FAQ

Windows says “Windows protected your PC” — is it safe?

The app is new and not yet code-signed, so SmartScreen warns about an unknown publisher. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. You can also check the file's SHA-256 against the value on this page.

The QR code won't connect.

Make sure the phone and PC are on the same Wi-Fi (some routers isolate 2.4G and 5G, or block devices on a guest network from seeing each other). You can also type the address shown under the QR into your phone's browser.

Where do received files go?

Into a “BearDrop” folder in your Downloads. Click “Received folder” in the app to open it.

Is it really free?

Yes — no trial, no time limit, no account.
